Yesterday I reported on Scott Thompson’s interview regarding Hertz’s imminent attempt at a hostile takeover of Dollar Rent A Car. One of the interesting parts of the interview was Dollar’s statement regarding plans for their future.

Scott Thompson was keen to point out that Dollar don’t have to sell and will only do so if the price is right for share holders. He also mentioned that Dollar will continue to pursue its stand alone plan for 2012 which includes a $20 million capital investment budget. Last year, the company invested $17 million in its capital projects.

Investments proposed by the company this year include new rental car locations, a new facility near Los Angeles International Airport, a new used car retail operation in Florida and long-term investments in IT.

Thompson added

“We’re looking at new (rental car) stores after a number of years of contraction. Clearly, we have a standalone plan, we have some good things going on. We are running fast, and we will see if they can catch us.”

Hi all,

Fresh from the news that we are expecting a price rise from Budget Rent A Car, Dollar Rent A Car have now contacted us to advise a price increase which will take effect from 20 May 2011.

The price increase will cover most of the peak summer period and will involve some of the more popular vehicles including the Intermediate (IFAR), Standard (SFAR) and the Premium Sports Utility Vehicle (PFAR) and also the Convertible (STAR).

Increases

The increases will take effect for all new reservations made from May 20, 2011;

For pick up on or after June 20, 2011

• Florida: Rates have increased for the STAR and IVAR and  the SFAR and PFAR
• All areas except Florida: The high season surcharge will commence June 20 (originally it was July 14)
• All areas except Florida: Rates have increased  for the STAR, IVAR, SFAR and the PFAR

The rate increases will effect all suppliers of Dollar Rent A Car, and is a spiralling effect from the terrible Tsunami that struck Japan in March, which has led to a real shortage of supply’s for the manufacturing of vehicles.

usrentacar.co.uk promises to try to minimise the impact it has on our pricing by swallowing as much of the increase as possible.

Remember this does not effect rentals that have already been made.

We’ll keep you posted of for further increases which seem inevitable now.

Hi all,

Back in July I blogged about Alamo’s decision to accept Visa debit cards and quipped that I hoped other companies would follow suit.

Well fair play to Dollar Rent A Car for stepping up to my challenge and getting in touch with me yesterday to confirm that usrentacar.co.uk customers can now leave an imprint of a visa debit card for their deposit.

Upon arrival you will generally be asked to leave this information in the form of a pre-authorsiation, meaning any charges incurred during the rental, i.e. child seats; late return etc will be debited from the imprinted card, in the past this has always had to be a credit card.

Its great news that Dollar has agreed to do this and now we can only hope Budget Rent A Car follow suit… over to you Budget…

Using google maps it plots the available locations Dollar Rent A Car have in the Orlando area. We thought this maybe helpful to those people who don’t wish to collect from an airport location or who wish to collect half way through their holiday.

We can now offer rates with Dollar Car Hire in all Dollar locations up to and including the 31/03/2012, yes that’s right 2012!!! and the best bit is that at present you can secure these rates for only £50.00

We have been informed that rates will increase next year so I would advise taking advantage as soon possible.

Some great prices at present include

The Intermediate SUV from Orlando International Airport at only £151.74 a week fully inclusive!
