USA Diner Dictionary

Hi all,

Been sent some great information from one of our readers regarding language used in U.S. diners by waitresses and kitchen staff. Although its not strictly Car Hire USA related, I thought it was interesting… I could be wrong :-)

Diner Dictionary

Adam’s Ale - Water.

B & B - Bread and Butter.

Black and White – Chocolate soda and vanilla ice cream.

Boiled Leaves – Tea.

Cremate it – Toast it.

Cow Paste – Butter.

Hen Fruit – Egg.

Hot One – Chilli.

House Boat – Banana Spilt.

Flop Two – Flip two eggs.

Let The Sunshine In – Unbroken egg.

Lighthouse – Bottle of Tomato sauce.

Over Easy/Easy Over – Fried eggs turned.

Pitch Till You Win – All you can eat.

Shivering Eve – Apple juice.

Sun Kiss – Orange juice.

Sweep The Kitchen – Hash browns.

Vermont – Maple syrup.

Wax – America cheese.

Yellow Paint – Mustard.

So if you hear “flop two with lighthouse” don’t fear, you’re not going to have to eat a structure designed to emit light but just eggs with tomato sauce!!!

Have you heard any others we could add to the list?

usrentacar.co.uk Guide To Discovery Cove Orlando

Hi all,

To celebrate our recent deal to offer our customers Discovery Cove Tickets I thought I’d list some useful information regarding this amazing experience provided by our friends at SeaWorld.

About Discovery Cove

Discovery Cove is an all-inclusive tropical getaway and the only place to experience the most exciting animal encounters the world has to offer. Swim with dolphins and feel the mysterious, inspiring connection that draws you in and holds you captivated. Don a mask and snorkel in the Tropical Reef, a breathtaking underwater world teeming with thousands of exotic tropical fish and graceful rays. Take time to enjoy the songs and vibrant colors of birds from all over the world in the Explorer’s Aviary.

Discovery Cove Insider Tips

  • If you are planning on visiting Discovery Cove during the summer or near a holiday, you should book your reservation at least one month prior to your intended visit to ensure availability as these timeframes tend to book early.
  • Discovery Cove provides all guests with swim vests and/or wetsuits, a mask and snorkel, towels and beach chairs. Discovery Cove will also provide guests with a sample of specially formulated sunscreen that is safe for use in the animal habitats.
  • Guests should bring their own swimsuits, and, if they choose, water socks or rubber pool shoes, hat, sunglasses and cover-up or dry clothes.
  • Discovery Cove guests may not wear jewelry, for the safety of the animals.
  • Discovery Cove provides complimentary transportation to and from SeaWorld Orlando on the day of the Discovery Cove visit. We also provide complimentary transportation to Busch Gardens Tampa for guests whose Discovery Cove package includes admission to Busch Gardens.

Water Temperature

The temperature of our pools remains constant throughout the year. The fresh water Serenity Bay and Wind-away River are maintained around 86 F (30 C). The salt water dolphin pools, and Tropical Reef are 77 F (25 C).

Discovery Cove Review

Mr J Williamson, UK.

Discovery cove is such a beautiful, tropcial oasis in the middle of orlando. It is such a relaxing break from the normal theme parks. I know it seems expensive for a day out but when you consider everything thats included its really worth the money. The food provided is very good too, with a wide range of variety. The dolphins are beautiful and sop gentle. The whole experience will forever be etched in my memory. I would highly recommend discovery cove to everyone.

What are your experiences of Discovery Cove?

Today Is Martin Luther King Day In The USA

Hi all,

Today is Martin Luther King Day in the USA and therefore is a federal holiday. Martin Luther King Day is always held on the third Monday of January each year, which is around the time of King’s birthday, January 15.

How is it celebrated?

Martin Luther King Day is a relatively new federal holiday(1986) and there are few long standing traditions. It is seen as a day to promote equal rights for all Americans, regardless of their background. Some educational establishments mark the day by teaching their pupils or students about the work of Martin Luther King and the struggle against racial segregation and racism. In recent years, federal legislation has encouraged Americans to give some of their time on this day as volunteers in citizen action groups.

Martin Luther King Day, also known as Martin Luther King’s birthday and Martin Luther King Jr Day, is combined with other days in different states. For example, it is combined with Civil Rights Day in Arizona and New Hampshire, while it is observed together with Human Rights Day in Idaho. It is also a day that is combined with Robert E. Lee’s birthday in some states.

Public Life

Martin Luther King Day is a federal holiday, but has slightly different names in some states. Non-essential Government departments are closed, as are many corporations. Some schools and colleges close but others stay open and teach their students about the life and work of Martin Luther King.

Small companies, such as grocery stores and restaurants tend to be open, although a growing number are choosing to close on this day. Some compensate by opening on Washington’s Birthday instead. Recent federal legislation encourages Americans to give some of their time on Martin Luther King Day as volunteers in citizen action groups. Public transit systems may or may not operate on their regular schedule.

Martin Luther King was an important civil rights activist. He was a leader in the movement to end racial segregation in the United States. His most famous address was the “I Have A Dream” speech. He was an advocate of non-violent protest and became the youngest man to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. He was assassinated in 1968.

Background

In 1968, shortly after Martin Luther King died, a campaign was started for his birthday to become a holiday to honor him. After the first bill was introduced, trade unions lead the campaign for the federal holiday. It was endorsed in 1976. Following support from the musician Stevie Wonder with his single “Happy Birthday” and a petition with six million signatures, the bill became law in 1983.

Happy Martin Luther King Day.

Remember we can never guarantee make or model of any of our vehicles from any of our suppliers, but if you want a Ford Mustang the best bet looks like to hire a convertible from either Budget Rent A Car or Dollar Rent A Car.

Have you collected a Ford Mustang with any of our suppliers above?

What did you think, was it all you expected?
