Things To Know About USA Car Hire

Hi all,

USA Car Hire can be considered a bit of a  minefield for virgin travellers so here is my brief guide to things you should know about USA car hire.

Car rental insurance is always broken up in to components; to consider yourself properly covered you need to make sure your hire includes CDW (collision damage waiver), SLI (supplementary liability insurance) and UMP (uninsured motorist protection) all rentals include these insurances – What’s Included

Taxes and Aiport Surcharges

The tax and airport surcharge element of your hire can be very expensive, its important to read the terms and conditions on occasions a new tax or surcharge can be added after our rates are negotiated and therefore these extras would have to be paid locally. These instances are very rare but are always detailed in our terms. At present the only additional tax being paid locally is at Chicago O’Hare Airport.

All our suppliers vehicles will come with a full tank or as near to full as possible. If you have chosen our inclusive package then you will be expected to pay for your petrol upon arrival at the prevailing airport rate.

If you have selected our gold rate then your first tank of fuel is already prepaid and there is nothing to purchase locally.

In both instances you should return the hire vehicle as close to empty as possible.

If you require additional drivers on your hire then the gold rate is generally the best option for you as this includes multiple drivers.

Our deal with Budget Rent A Car includes one extra driver as standard and both Alamo and Dollar include an additional driver for free in California.

Adding an extra driver locally costs $10.00 per day, per driver plus tax. So it makes more financial sense to prepay it.

Young Drivers

Drivers aged 21-24 are generally charged a surcharge of $25 per day per driver plus tax. is the leading under 25 usa car hire company.

We offer a young drivers policy that should be prepaid to get the best deal. More info can be found here car hire under 25 and here guide to booking under 25 car hire.

What you need to take with you?

  • Full driving license, that means both parts paper and plastic (UK)
  • Credit or Debit Card depending upon the supplier, for a security deposit, must be in the name of the lead driver.
  • Your car rental voucher either printed off or via our voucher app’s

I hope this quick guide helps.

If I’ve missed anything please let me know.
