Autonomous Vehicles In Nevada? Google Are Trying

Hi all,

Interesting story on mashable following up on a story we reported on back in October last year regarding Google’s attempt to introduce self driving vehicles.

Well it looks like they are beginning to take the process one stage further by lobbying Nevada state for permission to allow autonomous vehicles on public roads!

Mashable writes

Google has created a line of self-driving hybrids, including six Toyota Priuses and an Audi TT. The vehicles have been tested on more than 140,000 miles of California roads, at least 1,000 of which were driven fully autonomously.

It is believed that Google, who have hired Las Vegas based lobbyist David Goldwater, will try to amend two state laws, firstly regarding texting while in control of  a motor vehicle  and secondly to allow the testing of self driving cars on public roads.

Google will site safety as its main feature for altering legislation.

Google The Future Of USA Car Hire?

Hi all,

Exciting news from google yesterday and something that perhaps you wouldn’t associate with the search giant.kit

Google announced via their blog that they have developed technology that will allow cars to drive themselves! Yep just like KIT…

Using video cameras, radar sensors and a laser range finders to “see” other traffic and detailed maps, google have designed a self driving car that has already clocked up more than 140,000 miles.

Google stated “Our automated cars, manned by trained operators, just drove from our Mountain View campus to our Santa Monica office and on to Hollywood Boulevard. They’ve driven down Lombard Street, crossed the Golden Gate bridge, navigated the Pacific Coast Highway, and even made it all the way around Lake Tahoe.”

Exciting times at google, and good to see a very powerful company pushing the boundaries of technology. Would be nice to be renting self driven cars out to customer via usrentacar.co.uk
