One Way Rentals With U.S. Rent A Car.co.uk
Hi all,
I thought for todays topic I would quickly cover One Way Rentals (OWR). A OWR is when you collect from one location but drop off in a different location. For example collect at Los Angeles Airport, California but return to Las Vegas Airport, Nevada.
Most OWR do incur an additional charge, based on mileage and sometimes car group. A typical scale of cost would be
Approximate Charges*
Distance Cost*
0 – 200 miles $50.00
201 – 500 miles $100.00
501 – 1000 miles $300.00
Over 1000 miles $500.00
Some of our suppliers also offer addtionalfree of charge special offer one way rentals, please see below for details.

Recently did a one way from Vegas to San Francisco booked on this site, using dollar. Amazing drive that went through every possible landscape along with a few stops inbetween. highly recommend it if you enjoy driving through unbelievable landscapes and exploring. Highlights including driving up and down the strip in Vegas, death valley, yosemite, sierra nevada, the crazy hills, steep slopes and bustle in San Francisco…and ending with a drive over the golden gate bridge. unforgettable. the car was a ford fusion, but it had a problem with accelerating uphill so we swapped it before leaving vegas. ended up with a Kia suv.
only one niggle was that we were forced to take out a full on breakdown & towing cover which added another 80 dollars on top. apparently they wont allow you to rent if you dont have it and youre ending the trip a long way from the originating rental garage. i didnt really believe him having driven in the US many times before without this extra. mind you going by how much other customers were being fleeced of ahead of me, they try to force you to pay for anything just to get more cash out of you as the reps are all on commission… They’ll usually be successful too because after waiting an hour in a queue of 6 (yes 6) people being force-fed information to part with more cash – you just want to get out of there and not bother arguing over rules and regs!
one tip for san francisco if youre staying a few days is get rid of the rental car on arrival to avoid being charged $40-45 (avg) a night to park somewhere! they have decent public transport and most can be walked/cycled as its a compact city! Should you need to use a car for the day, just do it on a daily basis there as there are loads of rental garages in the city! however if youve already pre-paid for the entire duration you wont get a refund if you drop it off earlier than your agreement end date.
Highly recommend ‘us rent a car’, will use again next year.
